Chase Bays Triple Baffled Power Steering Reservoir | Turn Style

Countless hours of research and development were put into the Chase Bays power steering reservoir upgrade! This isn’t as simple as putting 2 fittings on a fluid container and calling it a day. It is far more complex. The smaller fitting on the Reservoir is the fluid return from the rack. It can be sent back at pressures up to 120psi. When that hits the fluid in the reservoir it can cause extreme foaming aeration if not properly slowed down and directed. The more the steering and RPM on the car, the higher the pressures will be. This is also what commonly causes the spillover through the cap under heavy use. Most people think their fluid is boiling over when this happens but in most cases it is not…just turbulence.

Chase Bays has put serious engineering time into the internal design to negate this aeration and spillover entirely. The performance of this Power Steering Reservoir has gotten rave reviews from our customers. In the reservoir photos you can see a “chimney” inside, there is a multi-layer design within this chimney. They can’t give away all of their secrets, but just know you won’t have any aeration or spillover issues. Between on track testing and computer fluid dynamics, Chase Bays was able to slow down 120psi to 12psi in 2 inches of fluid motion. Thats just 2 of the baffles, it doesn’t end there.

Power Steering is a loop hydraulic system so it needs to be vented. The cap has a unique baffle design to block fluid from pushing out the vent. Go to any road race/drift/rally event and look at all the factory (and most aftermarket) power steering reservoirs. By the end of the day there is spillover all around the reservoir. It was their goal to be the 1 in 100 reservoirs to have no spillover. They’re are proud to say; that goal has been met.

INLET / OUTLET ADAPTERS
The two ports on the bottom are now -6AN and -10AN Threaded Female ORB (O-Ring Boss, aka has a seat for an o-ring). This means you can thread practically any size AN or Barb type fitting right in to match your setup. We have two options on the drop down menu’s above:

-6AN and -10AN : This is the standard sizes used in motorsports and what thousands of vehicles running our Power Steering kit use. To attach to these you will of course need -6AN and -10AN hose ends. If you buy their Power Steering Kit’s for the chassis they cater to, it will all be handled for you.

OE Style Push On Connections : This is for slip on rubber hose to be tightened down with a hose clamp. They developed this so that it can install directly onto stock power steering hoses. It doesn’t have quite the reliability and longevity of A.N. Fittings but can get the job done. Make note that a major issue, aside from the reservoir itself, with most stock power steering systems is the rubber hoses leaking. But if you’re looking for a quick and easy reservoir upgrade, this is it. The sizes of each fitting are below. Rubber hose can safely shrink/stretch plus or minus 4mm:

Rack to Reservoir Adapter Fitting OD (Return) 12.11mm / 0.47″ inch
Reservoir to Pump Adapter Fitting OD (Feed) 16.5mm / 0.65″ inch

These are the sizes found to be most common and rubber can stretch without risk of cracking the hose. There are some scenarios where this reservoir wont work on your chassis if there is a space limitation. Please email us with photos of your setup if you’re unsure.

This is included in ALL of the Chassis Specific Power Steering Kits which a complete replacement of the reservoir and fluid lines:

  • BMW E30 Power Steering Kit
  • BMW E36 Power Steering Kit
  • BMW E46 Power Steering Kit
  • Nissan 240sx | Silvia Power Steering Kit
  • Nissan 350z Power Steering Kit
  • Subaru WRX | STi Power Steering Kit
  • Lexus IS300 Power Steering Kit
